I just received some new bronze hardware for the Herreshoff 12 1/2 in the shop for restoration.  It comes from JM Reineck & Son foundry in Massachusetts.  It pretty much resembles jewelry.  We have some bronze blocks with ball bearing sheaves that aren’t pictured.  The owner has them probably because he wants to touch them and spin the sheaves every once in a while, I would.

I’ve just installed one of the garboard planks on the 12 1/2, and had to use some time honored planking techniques for pulling a closed in plank tight to the frames. You just drill a big hole in the plank and insert a carriage bolt through the hole and tighten it up against something sturdy on the inside of the boat. In this case, the something sturdy, was the floor timbers. If you’re lucky enough to have a wooden floor in your shop, you can fasten cleats to the floor and use props to push the plank in place.  I did use some props, even though I don’t have wooden floors, but the boat is light enough that you start to lift and move the boat without much force. I’ve included a picture of the inside and outside of hull to illustrate what I’m talking about.  Have a great weekend!
